About the Role:
Techner is seeking experienced Microwave Design Engineers to plan, design, and optimize microwave backhaul networks supporting 4G/LTE and 5G transport infrastructure. This role in Alaska focuses on RF link design, frequency coordination, and multi-vendor microwave system planning to ensure reliable, high-availability connectivity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform microwave link budget calculations, path profiling, and line-of-sight (LOS) analysis.
* Design and optimize licensed point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP) microwave networks.
* Conduct frequency coordination and ensure compliance with FCC regulations.
* Develop technical design packages including schematics, Bills of Materials (BoM), and network documentation.
* Validate designs using planning and simulation tools to ensure performance and reliability.
* Collaborate with deployment and integration teams to support implementation and troubleshooting.
* Review and maintain accurate design documentation and as-built records.
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
* 5+ years of hands‑on experience in microwave backhaul network design within telecom environments.
* Experience working with multi‑vendor microwave platforms.
* Strong expertise in RF propagation, fade margin analysis, modulation schemes (QPSK, QAM), and licensed microwave frequency bands.
* Proficiency with planning and design tools such as Pathloss, TEMS Link Planner, MapInfo, and Google Earth Pro.
* Experience designing both PTP and PMP microwave links.
* Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
* Must be located in Alaska and authorized to work in the U.S.
