Advanced Pharmacist (Antimicrobial Specialist)
We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic pharmacist to lead the antimicrobial stewardship strategy within Prince Philip Hospital, allowing the post holder to make a real difference to antimicrobial resistance.
About Us
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and provide primary, community, in‑hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead antimicrobial stewardship strategy and collaborate with the Medicines Management Team, consultant microbiologists, and other health board pharmacists.
* Conduct local and national audits, provide feedback, and contribute to the implementation of prescribing guidelines.
* Support the Welsh Government targets and education of health‑care workers in antimicrobial stewardship.
* Allocate approximately half of the time to antibiotic‑related duties and the other half to other clinical duties, including monitoring financial expenditure, research, and service improvement.
* Provide a patient‑focused clinical pharmacy service within general medical wards and develop pharmacist‑led clinics where appropriate.
* Participate in weekend and on‑call rota.
Key Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Pharmacy.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in an area of practice, or equivalent experience.
Desirable
* Independent Prescriber.
* Aseptic preparation and dispensing of medicines (e.g., Leeds University) or equivalent.
* Certification as QI if role includes aseptics.
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* Accredited supervisor for foundation or post‑foundation pharmacists.
Experience
* Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems within an integrated NHS.
* Knowledge and experience of healthcare practices.
* Specialist knowledge gained through diploma‑level training and experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge in more than one field.
* Practice research experience.
* Training and education of pharmacy staff and other HCPs.
* Experience managing change and service improvement.
Language Requirements
* Desirable: Welsh speaker – Level 1.
* Both Welsh and English speakers are welcome.
Other Requirements
* Flexible approach to on‑call, weekend, and evening work.
* Ability to travel between sites.
Compensation & Details
Band 8a – £56,514 to £63,623 per annum (pro rata if part‑time). Permanent contract. Full‑time, part‑time, or job share available.
