The Role
We are seeking a detail-driven and highly organised Finance Assistant to join our close-knit finance team on a part-time basis (min. 20 hours per week). This is a key supporting role within the team, which currently comprises three professionals, and will play a pivotal part in maintaining accurate financial records across several companies in the Griggs group.
Based in our beautiful Borehamwood office, this part-time role offers flexibility with the potential for additional hours during busy periods (e.g. holiday cover or year-end activity). You’ll work closely with our Finance team o keep things running smoothly behind the scenes—reconciling accounts, helping with financial reporting, and ensuring meticulous financial hygiene across the board.
Key Responsibilities
* Record and process daily financial transactions, including invoices, payments, and bank entries.
* Reconcile bank, credit card and petty cash statements to maintain accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
* Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports, including profit & loss statements and balance sheets.
* Maintain an organised and accessible filing system for digital and paper financial records.
* Support the budgeting and cash flow processes, helping to forecast financial needs across projects.
* Track and monitor project-related expenses, ensuring they remain within agreed budgets.
* Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure timely payments and resolve any account queries.
* Assist in preparing data and documents for tax filings, audits and end-of-year accounts.
* Work proactively with the wider team to improve processes and systems where possible.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who has:
* Proven experience in a finance or bookkeeping support role—ideally within construction, property, or related sectors.
* Familiarity with accounting software (preferably Xero) and strong Excel skills, with the ability to produce accurate, well-presented reports.
* A basic understanding of accounting principles and good working knowledge of financial statements.
* Exceptional organisational skills, an eagle eye for detail, and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple tasks.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
