The business is now looking for a high-calibre Head of Engineering, someone who is looking for the next step towards CTO in the future to support the company's continued rapid growth. This is a really exciting opportunity for someone to accelerate their career and develop into a CTO role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide strategic advice to the Executive Team and Board on all technical matters
* Manufacturing and design of electromechanical hardware and software
* Oversee the technical output of the engineering team in the development of new products, sales project solutions, and new functionality
* Management of external design resources
* Regulatory compliance – skills to work within it and understand it (doesn’t need to be responsible in the interim role)
* Project Management and delivery advice on ongoing and new innovation projects
* Manage and optimise department task and project delivery, assigning tasks to engineering and technical personnel for efficient operation
* Take responsibility for the creation and implementation of all Health and Safety requirements for safe operations inside Pavegen facilities, monitoring compliance and continual improvement through appropriate metrics
* In conjunction with the Sales team, interface directly with customers to establish clear technical requirements for key sales projects and budgetary costings for technical solutions
* Participate in strategic decisions relating to investment in new technologies, securing appropriate in-house and external resources to deliver innovative new product functionality
* Coaching and mentoring of junior team members across all disciplines
* Recruit, build and develop a high-performing team, identifying the need for training and talent development and providing opportunity for success within the team and consequent growth opportunities for the business
Skills and Experience:
* 5 years’ experience in a senior technology role as a CTO, Engineering Manager, Technology Director or similar role in a product manufacturing company
* Technical analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems
* Communication skills for developing staff and engaging with other business functions
* Detail-oriented with the ability to identify and prevent errors which can result in major problems
* Degree level qualification in an engineering related discipline
Person Specification:
Successful candidates will need to be highly experienced and with the ability to think and operate strategically whilst also being comfortable with detail. In particular, they will need to:
* Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering / technology leadership role encompassing electromechanical hardware and software
* Have experience of working in a fast-paced scale-up technology business
* Demonstrable experience of implementing quality systems, including ISO9001 in a hardware/software business
* Be ready to roll their sleeves up and get stuck into the detail and fix issues whilst also maintaining a strategic overview of the top line objectives
* Have a collaborative vision to solve issues with a high attention to detail
* Have an excellent track record of mentoring and coaching
* Excellent presentational skills
* Excellent inter-personal skills
