Protocol Education is working with a supportive and welcoming primary school in Gateshead to recruit a dedicated SEND Support Assistant within EYFS. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about working with children — no formal qualifications are required, just the right attitude, empathy, and commitment.
What your day-to-day will look like:
This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you’ll support children with additional needs throughout their school day. You’ll be a key part of helping them feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.
Each day will bring variety, but your responsibilities will include:
* Working 1:1 with pupils who need extra support
* Reading with children and helping them develop early literacy skills
* Supporting play-based learning and sensory activities
* Helping children navigate routines and transitions
* Encouraging positive behaviour and social interaction
You’ll be a consistent, supportive presence — someone children can trust and rely on. Building strong relationships is at the heart of this role, and your ability to connect with pupils will have a lasting impact.
