Cardiology Department Overview
Our innovative Cardiology department’s Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 cath labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future.

As a support worker in the Cath Labs you would:
* Support the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients pre and post procedures.
* Complete regular observations post procedure escalating any concerns to a registered staff member.
* Ensure patients are eating and drinking appropriately pre and post procedure.
* Maintain excellent communication with patients during their stay in the cath lab and recovery area.
* Assist the multidisciplinary team in completing procedures including conscious sedation, completing frequent monitoring and reassurance to patient during procedures.
* Support multidisciplinary team in maintaining excellent infection control standards within the department.
* Assist in equipment checks and ensuring documentation on checklists is up to date.
* Ensure cath labs and recovery area is stocked safely and efficiently to support productive working.
* Support the Lead Nurse in developing and leading the support worker group.
* Support the team by preparing surgical trolleys to facilitate effective flow between procedures.
