Electrical Engineering Manager
Orbion is composed of a team of world-recognized leaders in space technology development and production. We are seeking a senior electrical engineer to manage and lead the Avionics and Electronics team at Orbion. The role involves supporting avionics product manufacturing, designing, developing, and qualifying new avionics products, and developing specialized products for testing space propulsion systems. The manager will oversee team personnel, enhance their technical skills, organize and drive projects, and coordinate with management to meet business and technical objectives. Compensation and title will be based on the candidate's experience.
Position is on-site at Orbion’s headquarters in Houghton, Michigan.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and direct Orbion’s avionics team.
2. Oversee team members working with electronics manufacturing partners.
3. Support electronics production, including managing non-conforming product resolution.
4. Provide technical guidance for efficient problem solving in production and design.
5. Create resource plans, development processes, and optimize staffing.
6. Establish budgets and schedules for projects.
7. Mentor less experienced engineers and promote continuous improvement.
8. Implement problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and resolve issues promptly.
9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Must qualify as a US Person.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
3. At least 10 years of experience in development and production of complex electronic products.
4. Minimum of 6 years in team management.
5. Experience with EEE parts selection and supply chain considerations.
6. Willingness to travel up to 25%, primarily within a half-day drive from Houghton.
Qualifications:
1. Experience with electronics contract manufacturers, either as a customer or employee.
2. Knowledge of electronic manufacturing processes such as pick-and-place, solder reflow, AOI, conformal coating, etc.
3. Experience with space electronics, radiation-tolerant design, and qualification testing.
4. Experience with power electronics.
