What you’ll be doing

The role supports a leading international construction group delivering large-scale infrastructure projects. You will join our Regional Scotland team as a Project Manager to help shape and deliver projects that connect communities and impact daily life for millions. You will work with experienced professionals, receive support and feedback to develop your capability, and help ensure projects are delivered on time, safely and within budget. This role is available part time, job share or full time.


Responsibilities

* Governance: Hold periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL; ensure the team maintains accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.); prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders.
* Analytical Thinking & Decision Making: Initiate sound scope/information/configuration management principles; ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost-effective decisions aligned with overall strategy; ensure scope and package assignments support coordinated team working.
* Health, Safety & Environmental: Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm; stay up to date with changes in legislation; responsible for safety and welfare of the public, employees and supply chain; conduct periodic Safety & Environmental Tours and promote safety initiatives; support Accident/Incident investigations; monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvements.
* Resources & Development: Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests.
* Leadership/Line Management: Produce plans for the team to achieve goals; develop high performing teams; promote a pipeline of talent; support, guide, motivate and empower the team using available training, mentoring and performance management resources.
* Procurement & Supply Chain: Manage subcontractors, monitor attendance and progress, provide direct instruction and support as necessary to meet contractual requirements; ensure procurement plans align with project plans to deliver materials/resources on time.
* Quality: Ensure work supports handover and certification; be accountable for KPIs in line with project objectives; conduct assurance activities (audits) and take action on findings; lead working groups with focus on improvement areas.
* Schedule: Develop and update resource-loaded schedules; promote use of productivity and project controls techniques; monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes and hold weekly meetings; ensure operational milestones reflect the master schedule and customer expectations; establish a robust change control process.
* Commercial & Contract: Ensure expenditure aligns with budget and resources are used efficiently for cost control; identify elements for cost recovery; balance operational and commercial constraints in decision making; lead effective reporting routines including escalation where required.

* Essential Qualities/Experience: Demonstrable track record of project delivery; good understanding of standard forms of contracts; proficient in commercial/project management communications; experience in implementing safe systems of work; effective verbal and written communication; strong team management with mentoring and performance management; commercially astute; ability to work under pressure; good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics; solution-oriented problem solving; ability to share and inspire a business vision.
* Desirable Qualities/Experience: Experience on various project types; member of a professional management body (e.g., APM); proficient in O365; holds a current driving licence.
* Role holder might have: Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management/construction or equivalent; APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ; CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
