We are a small Level 1 SCBU located in the rural market town of Herefordshire and an exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 Junior Sister.
The post holder will provide direct clinical care to babies and families on the Level 1 unit. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for coordinating and supervising care delivery of junior team members by providing effective leadership and senior decision making in all aspects of the Shift Lead role.
The post holder will provide support and work directly with the families delivering the principles of family integrated care, as well as directing and educating other members of the wider MDT.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running and safety of the ward, working closely alongside the ward manager, practice educator and the other Band 6 on the unit creating a ward environment of open and honest communication, where we display kindness and respect for others. This will include allocation of nursing staff to care for the babies on the ward, acting as a role model for junior colleagues, being a resource for other staff.
As a Band 6 Junior Sister you will be responsible for the daily co-ordinating of the shifts, you will be responsible for the daily safety checks and for the initial escalation of safety concerns; staff shortfall, increasing dependency and acuity demands.
You will need expert knowledge and competence assessing and caring for babies with both chronic and acute illness and babies admitted to the ward for intensive care and stabilisation.
You will be competent in caring for a critically ill baby and have knowledge of children’s safeguarding. Excellent communication skills with parents, families and colleagues are essential.

* Competent in Neonatal Venepunture (or willing to complete)
* Competent in Neonatal Cannulation (or willing to complete)
* Proficient in ECG monitoring
Experience
* Evidence of working within a neonatal unit, level 1, 2 or 3 in the last 12 months and up to date knowledge of neonatal conditions
* Aware of current research and evidence
