We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic podiatrist to develop clinical and leadership skills within a friendly, supportive and innovative paediatric podiatry team based in Southwest Staffordshire. This post offers the chance to manage a mixed caseload of children and young people with developmental and musculoskeletal conditions across the County.
The team are based in Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth and travel will be required based on service needs. As a community team covering a large geographical area, access to a car for work purposes will be essential.
The post holder will be part of the team providing wider assessment and intervention for children and young people with physical difficulties aged 0-18 years. We work in partnership with families and carers in community clinics and hospital settings. You will be expected to use and develop your skills using a variety of approaches and treatment modalities and to work closely with colleagues in other disciplines to provide a child-centered, holistic approach to care. You will also participate in the development of other staff and of the service.
The post holder must demonstrate competence in all aspects of the role and consistently uphold the Partnership Trust Values of putting quality first, focusing on people, and taking responsibility. As a Specialist Podiatrist, they will possess a detailed professional and clinical knowledge base, undertaking assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment programmes for children and young people in appropriate community settings. The role requires flexibility to work across Staffordshire and surrounding areas as needed. They will manage a defined caseload of service users aged 0–19 years, providing care across various settings, including community clinics and hospitals. The post holder must be highly skilled in assessing complex and specialist needs and in developing, implementing, and evaluating tailored care and support packages for children and their families.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment and care programmes for individuals, families and carers, taking a lead role in their specialist area and providing expert advice and support to others. Care plans will focus on promoting independence and safety, improving physical and mental wellbeing, managing long-term conditions, preventing health inequalities, and supporting self-management. They will apply advanced clinical judgement and professional expertise to tailor interventions to individual needs, using evidence-based practice to achieve optimal outcomes. The role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills, demonstrating leadership in clinical excellence, and modelling best practice to colleagues. The post holder will provide sensitive and empathetic support when delivering difficult information, manage challenging or uncooperative behaviours, and work flexibly across professional boundaries and service environments. They will maintain accurate and timely clinical records, ensure the safe use and transportation of equipment, and oversee appropriate delegation of tasks within the team. Additionally, they will contribute to service user, carer, and professional education through advice, training, and support.
Leadership and Supervision
The post holder will provide clinical supervision, guidance and support to junior staff, students and newly qualified practitioners, promoting reflective and evidence-based practice. They will contribute to staff induction, training and professional development, identifying individual learning needs and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. They will assist in prioritising workloads, balancing clinical, supervisory and training demands, and ensuring efficient day‑to‑day service delivery. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Team Leader or Professional Lead to identify and utilise the skills and competencies of team members effectively, supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives.
Performance and Quality
The post holder will collect and record statistical and audit data as required, contributing to clinical audit and quality assurance processes. They will actively support the development, implementation and evaluation of Trust policies, procedures and guidelines in line with statutory and professional standards. The role may also include responsibility for ordering stock and authorising staff expenses.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Degree in Podiatry or equivalent
* Relevant Specialist Post Graduate qualifications/courses
* Evidence of continued professional development since graduation
Desirable Criteria
* Evidence of further clinical study since graduation
* Studies on management of long-term conditions e.g. diabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics
* Attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups
