3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking two HWRC Operatives to support waste and environmental maintenance activities at the landfill and compost areas of the waste disposal site in Newport.
• The primary responsibility will be maintaining site cleanliness by litter picking across landfill and compost areas, ensuring the site remains safe, tidy and compliant with environmental standards.
• This role forms part of the Waste & Cleansing team within the Environment and Sustainability directorate.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Carry out litter picking across landfill and compost areas of the waste disposal site.
• Maintain cleanliness and environmental standards across operational areas.
• Support safe working practices across the site in line with health and safety procedures.
• Assist in general site maintenance and housekeeping tasks as required.
• Work collaboratively with site staff to ensure the landfill and surrounding areas remain clear of waste debris.
• Follow site instructions and operational guidance from supervisors and site management.
• Ensure all work activities comply with council policies and environmental regulations.
Skills/Experience:
• Previous experience working in waste management, landfill sites, recycling centres, or environmental services (desirable).
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices in an operational environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
• Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual tasks such as litter picking and site cleaning.
• Reliable, punctual and able to maintain consistent attendance.
• Previous experience in manual labour, environmental maintenance or site operations is advantageous.
Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Hours: Monday – Thursday: 07:30 – 15:30; Friday: 07:30 – 15:00.
• Limited/Umbrella: £16.57 per hour.
