Job Description
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer for the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. The role requires expertise in high, medium, low, and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Knowledge of control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems is beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Lead technical engineering support across the organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable, and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
* Provide incident response support as a national incident response role (may be within or outside normal working hours).
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Strong understanding of control systems and IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience developing safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Ability to test and isolate high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Experience applying risk‑based approaches to electrical maintenance, including FMEA, reliability systems, and processes.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions, and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork, and communication skills.

Role Specific Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and to be a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
