We are putting in place a new leadership structure to strengthen collaboration across the newsroom and support delivery of our 2030 vision for a premium, video‑first Sky News, built for the digital future.
Role Overview
The Director - International Hub is a pivotal leadership role within the newsroom, responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation's international journalism – with a particular focus on premium journalism that is digital video first.
The Director – International Hub sets the strategic direction for how international news is gathered, produced, commissioned, and delivered, ensuring it is authoritative, engaging, and aligned with the organisation's editorial values and vision to be a premium, video first, digital news organisation. They will need to drive change.
With a remit that spans strategy, talent management, and cross-platform delivery, the role requires a blend of strategic vision, editorial judgement, and operational leadership, as well as the ability to collaborate across departments and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
This role leads the International Hub — an integrated team of on-screen talent, producers, and editors tasked with delivering high-impact international content that informs and resonates with diverse audiences.
A key element of this role is leadership of Sky News' foreign bureaux and staff on international deployment.
The Director – International Hub has direct oversight of these foreign bureaus and deployed teams and has operational responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of staff reporting from around the world.
What You'll Do – Main Responsibilities
Have overall operational and strategic responsibility for international newsgathering, commissioning and output across digital, TV, and audio platforms - with a particular focus on premium journalism that is digital video first.
Formulate and deliver Sky News' editorial strategy for international coverage including international events coverage and specials, including major international elections.
Be responsible for specific international output on Sky News platforms. Currently these are The World TV programme and podcast, and the Trump100 podcast.
Day-to-day management of international news on-screen talent.
Maintain Sky News' external relationships with foreign governments, UK diplomatic missions, and NGOs.
Manage and direct high performing teams within the International Hub, including editors, producers and correspondents, as well as rotating resource from Shared Services such as camera operators and studio directors.
Coordinate foreign bureaus and deployed teams, ensuring operational efficiency and editorial consistency, as well as the safety, legal compliance, and duty of care for staff reporting from conflict zones and high-risk environments.
Work with platform teams to ensure that content resonates with audiences.
Oversee departmental budgets.
Be a fully committed member of the Sky News leadership team, aligned wholly with Sky News' collectively agreed strategic vision and goals, and embody these in the leadership of the International Hub.
What You'll Bring – Required Skills & Experience
Extensive experience in senior editorial roles within international news.
Deep global awareness and subject matter expertise in international affairs, including conflict reporting and geopolitical dynamics.
Commitment to innovation, experimentation and challenging the status quo – this role must embrace and drive change.
Proven ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary teams across platforms.
Strong editorial judgement and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Experience in cross-platform content delivery – especially premium digital video.
Strategic leadership skills, with the ability to align editorial output with organisational goals.
Strong investigative mindset, with a track record of delivering original journalism and uncovering stories of global significance.
Experience managing high-profile presenters and correspondents, with a focus on performance, development, and editorial alignment.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including diplomacy in complex and high-pressure environments.
Proven ability to implement and uphold robust safety protocols for teams operating in high-risk or hostile environments.
Demonstrated experience in budget management and resource planning.
