Job Description
🎨 Technical Designer – Master of Making Ideas Real! 🛠️
Ready to turn jaw-dropping retail concepts into reality? Love the smell of freshly drawn schematics in the morning? We’re looking for a creative powerhouse with a head full of CAD magic and a heart that beats for beautifully built displays. If you dream in SolidWorks and can spot a misaligned bracket from 50 paces, keep reading – we’ve got your dream gig!
👷 What You'll Be Doing (AKA Your Design Quest):
As the go-to Technical Designer on a cross-functional team of creative dynamos, you’ll take center stage in bringing big ideas to life. From scribble-on-a-napkin concept to polished, production-ready drawings, you’re the design champion leading the charge. You’ll own the design like it’s your baby – and yes, we mean everything from shaping it up in 3D to seeing it strut its stuff on the factory floor.
✨ Your Day-to-Day Might Look Like This:
* Teaming up with visionary Concept Designers to bring those big ideas down to earth (in SolidWorks, of course).
* Transforming approved concepts into glorious 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
* Whipping out quick sketches to solve tricky assembly puzzles or help cost things up.
* Designing within budget (your design-fu includes cost-saving wizardry).
* Tag-teaming with Project Buyers to match designs with the right suppliers, globally.
* Jet-setting (okay, occasionally) to factories in the UK or abroad to ensure everything is spot-on.
* Playing prototype detective – reviewing, tweaking, and presenting to clients with confidence.
* Keeping designs smart, safe, stunning – and always client-ready.
* Creating top-notch documentation: parts lists, QC reports, guides, and more.
* Staying on top of deadlines, owning your time, and communicating like a pro.
💡 What You Bring to the Table (Besides Your Sketchbook):
* A degree in Product Design Engineering or something similarly cool (nice to have).
* Solid experience in POP/fixture design (you know your way around a display).
* A ninja-level understanding of materials and manufacturing processes:
* Metal: sheet, wire, tubular, welding, the whole nine yards.
* Plastic: vacuum forming, injection moulding, extrusion, yes please.
* Wood: cutting, crafting, finishing – you’re practically a carpenter.
* Mad skills in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD), plus a bit of Microsoft wizardry.
* Sketching that makes people go “whoa.”
* Stellar communication, a can-do attitude, and time management that keeps everything on track.
* A positive approach to problem-solving – you don’t panic, you pivot.
* Detail obsession (the good kind) and people skills that shine, even under pressure.
* A passport ready to be stamped – occasional travel is part of the adventure.
🚀 Why You’ll Love This Role:
You get to take ideas that start as dreams and turn them into tangible, show-stopping retail displays. You'll work with passionate people, flex your design muscles, and never be stuck in a boring routine. If you're ready to create, collaborate, and bring the wow to retail – this is your stage.
