The Housing & Pollution specialist will undertake HMO licensing, inspect properties for HHSRS compliance and carry out appropriate enforcement, respond to complaints of nuisance, filthy and verminous premises, permitted processes and contaminated land, and serving notices as necessary. The role will also respond to planning and licensing consultations and play an active role in delivering public health initiatives.
The Environmental Health Officer will join our Housing & Pollution team and work in a geographical area of the District. We welcome applications from final year Environmental Health students or those seeking practical experience.
Responsibilities
* Carry out a programme of work as agreed with the Environmental Health Manager.
* Investigate complaints and requests for service in the area and function for which you are responsible.
* Ensure that all matters of environmental significance within the area are recorded and pursued to secure Environmental Health compliance, personally or through others.
* Work within a team of officers and cover the work of absent colleagues.
* Support and contribute to quality practices as described within the Corporate Quality Policy and as directed by departmental and team plans/management.
* Attend and advise Area Committees, if required, to present reports on duties you are responsible for.
* Ensure compliance with the Council and Directorate safety policies.
* Apply and promote the principles of the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery.
* Advise the Environmental Health Manager if any duties cannot be carried out.
* Contractual willingness and ability to work outside normal office hours when required.
* Carry out other duties as required to support the business, including maintaining business continuity and during civil emergencies.
* Apply and promote the Council's Safeguarding Procedure in all areas of employment and service delivery.
* Carry out any other duties as directed by the Head of Service.
Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent in Environmental Health or be actively working towards the qualification. Career grade candidates’ pay will be capped at scale point 29 (currently £40,212) until fully qualified.
If not already a qualified EHO registered with CIEH (formerly EHRB), candidates must be in the final year of their accredited degree and have completed and passed their EHP portfolio to be eligible.
