The Opportunity
The Lead in Professionalism, Ethics and Law will provide academic leadership in the design, delivery, evaluation, and ongoing development of professionalism, ethics and law teaching across the UNSW BMedMD program. The role will oversee existing teaching and assessment within the current program while partnering with the Medicine Program Redesign team to shape and implement an integrated curriculum.
As an education-focused academic, the appointee will contribute to high‑quality teaching, curriculum innovation, educational scholarship, and stakeholder engagement.
The role of Senior Lecturer reports to Program Director, BMed/MD and may have direct reports.
Responsibilities
* Provide academic leadership and oversight of teaching and assessment of professionalism, ethics and law within the current Medicine program.
* Collaborate with the Medicine Program Redesign team to lead development, integration and delivery of content in the redesigned curriculum.
* Ensure curriculum design reflects contemporary developments in medical ethics, legal frameworks, and professional practice standards.
* Develop and lead high‑quality student learning experiences, including lectures, small‑group teaching, tutorials, workshops and online modules.
* Design and develop innovative learning and assessment approaches, including lectures, small‑group teaching, workshops and online modules.
* Lead the development and implementation of assessment strategies that validly and reliably assess professionalism, ethics and law.
* Maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Undertake educational scholarship and contribute to the evidence base in medical professionalism, ethics, and law education.
* Supervise and mentor junior academic staff and casual educators.
* Contribute to the academic governance of the BMedMD program, including participation in relevant committees.
* Maintain an excellent standard of professional practice and champion equity, diversity and inclusivity in education.
Key Selection Criteria
* A medical or relevant health professional qualification with expertise in medical ethics, professionalism and relevant legal frameworks.
* Demonstrated record of excellence in medical education, relevant to these domains.
* Experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
* Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
* Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with ability to lead an inclusive culture of excellence.
* Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
* Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
