Role: Secondary School SEN Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time

Daily Rate: £92.63 – £110 (dependent on experience)
Our agency is working in partnership with a number of inclusive and supportive secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking confident and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs from September 2026. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s academic, social, and emotional development.
About the Role
As a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to help pupils access the curriculum, build confidence, and progress academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties
* Support students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups across a range of subject areas
* Assist class teachers in adapting learning materials to meet individual needs
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation in line with school policies
* Encourage independence, engagement, and inclusion within the classroom
* Monitor and record student progress, feeding back to teaching and SEN staff
* Build positive, professional relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
Candidate Profile
* Experience working with children or young people with SEN (secondary age preferred)
* A caring, resilient, and patient approach
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to implement behaviour support strategies effectively
* Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team
* A genuine commitment to supporting young people with additional needs
Requirements
* Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
* Two relevant professional references
* Eligibility to work in the UK
