Experienced Trauma/Orthopaedic Physiotherapist band 6

Provide a high standard of trauma and orthopaedic physiotherapy service primarily to patients within Torbay Hospital in-patients and the wider Trust if required.
We are a dynamic and friendly team with a wide skill mix, working closely with other MDT members on the wards. We work flexibly across the hospital as part of the trauma and orthopaedic service.

Main duties of the job
1. Work Monday to Friday regularly and contribute to the weekend service.
2. Work across acute wards and various areas as needed, including fracture clinics, support for day surgery, outlying trauma and orthopaedic patients, and paediatrics.
3. Provide senior leadership alongside the team lead for orthopaedic therapy and ward teams.
4. Support home visits or similar activities to facilitate patient flow.
5. Act as an expert in assessing and managing patients with diverse pathologies, collaborating with physiotherapists, students, healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients, and carers.
6. Identify appropriate physiotherapy treatments and managements with the MDT.
7. Work with discharge coordinators and other services to facilitate patient discharge plans.
8. Educate and train physiotherapists, students, and healthcare staff in managing acute and chronic conditions.

1. Provide services to trauma and orthopaedic patients across the site, supporting senior clinical decision-making including discharge planning.
2. Possess NHS experience, including broad rotational experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist in areas like respiratory, orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological, and MSK conditions.
3. Maintain judgment under pressure and handle assessments requiring prolonged concentration.

Person Specification
Qualifications and training
* Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
* HCPC registration
* CPD evidence
* Experience in NHS settings including T&O, neurology, respiratory, MSK
* Postgraduate trauma and orthopaedics training/experience
* Advanced Manual Handling skills
* Bond Salon clinical record keeping or equivalent
Knowledge and experience
* Broad knowledge of trauma, orthopaedics, neurological, and elderly medical conditions
* Experience in multidisciplinary team leadership and supervision
* Understanding of Clinical Governance, quality issues, research, and audits
* Knowledge of NSFs and clinical guidelines
* Complex assessment skills
