I'm currently seeking a seasoned and forward-thinking Environmental Health Manager to lead a Local Authority team in the North West on an interim basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape public health strategy, drive policy development, and lead enforcement activities across food safety and workplace health & safety—while benefiting from flexible working arrangements, including remote and hybrid options.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of the Food Law Service Plan and Health & Safety Strategy
* Interpret and apply legislation and national guidance with accuracy and confidence
* Oversee statutory returns and ensure full policy compliance
* Represent the Council in legal proceedings and enforcement actions
Team & Operational Oversight
* Manage a team of Environmental Health Officers, including senior and apprentice-level staff
* Oversee inspections of high-risk and approved food premises
* Lead investigations into food complaints, infectious diseases, and workplace accidents
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Degree in Environmental Health with EHRB/CIEH Registration
* Demonstrated competency in food safety and health & safety enforcement
* Experience in policy development, legal processes, and strategic planning
* Strong leadership, communication, and report-writing skills
