Environmental Health and Compliance plays a vital role in protecting the health, environment and safety of our growing City. Our team of dedicated professionals are responsible for environmental protection and public health programs, development compliance, regulatory and animal services. About the role The Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Squad has been established to deter illegal dumping in Western Sydney. The position holder will assist in achieving this objective by the effective and efficient discharge of member councils’ regulatory functions relating to illegal disposal of waste throughout the region. Essential criteria A background in a local government regulatory or compliance role and/or appropriate tertiary qualifications relating to the powers and duties of an authorised officer under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act or equivalent Demonstrated experience in investigation and evidence gathering procedures and making difficult decisions Strong interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills • Proven ability to work autonomously in a potentially volatile environment Demonstrated ability to work closely with other members of a small team Experience in the use of personal computers and related software packages A current Class C Driver Licence Desirable criteria A demonstrated working knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulations An understanding of the enforcement provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 The ability to prepare complex reports, proposals and submissions Knowledge of court procedures, brief preparation and the Evidence Act Excellent time management skills Salary: $$83,341.00 to $96,471.00 per annum plus 11.5% superanuation. Access to a Leaseback Vehicle is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.
