Overview

Specialist Teacher – Social, Emotional and Mental Health Team (SEMH) – Fixed Term Contract

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an outstanding and creative Specialist Teacher who is highly experienced at meeting the needs of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a fixed term contract until July 2026, with potential start from January 2025 or earlier.


Salary and Conditions

Salary: Teachers Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale, £32,916 to£51,048 per annum (pro rata). Plus SEN Allowance £2,787 - £5,497 pro rata, per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

This post requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring check for regulated activity with children. The post is an essential car user role with a contractual requirement to make a suitable vehicle available. Applicants must be able to drive, have a driving licence and own a car; reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where required. Full-time 35 hours per week; applications for part-time and job-share will be considered.


Who we are and what you will do

You will work as part of the Solihull Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS) SEMH Team. SISS is a high quality local service supporting maintained schools, academies and settings to help children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs. You will be allocated a number of schools, both primary and secondary, and will support educational development and inclusion of the children referred to the team.

The SEMH Team provides a traded service to schools and will involve a variety of activities, including individual work, small group interventions, developing whole-school SEMH approaches, and delivering training to a range of audiences. The team also supports pupils through commissioned pathways such as SEMH High Needs, looked-after children, and those with EHC plans.


Responsibilities

* Deliver individual and group interventions for SEMH needs and contribute to whole-school SEMH strategies.
* Collaborate with parents and professionals as part of multidisciplinary teams.
* Support schools across the borough with SEMH-related needs and ensure effective inclusion of pupils on caseloads.
* Deliver training and support to school staff and other audiences as required.
* Contribute to commissioned pathways for pupils at risk of exclusion and other SEMH supports.


Requirements and Qualifications

* Qualified teacher with experience in SEMH needs and working with children and young people.
* Experience of working with parents and other professionals; ability to work as part of a team.
* Willingness to travel around the Borough of Solihull to support schools, children and young people on your caseload.
* Potential to work across primary and secondary settings.
