Job Summary

We are looking for a Financial Controller, who, as a qualified accountant, will lead an experienced finance team and report directly to the Financial Director (FD). This role oversees all accounting functions in the business, ensuring that records are kept accurately and that reported results comply with accounting standards and legislation. It is a key role to support the business, working with managers across all departments to achieve department and wider business goals.

Duties include coordinating and managing the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, preparing monthly statements and other regular financial reports, maintaining a robust control environment, and serving as the primary contact for external auditors.

About The Team

Concept’s finance team is a small but highly experienced group of five based in Edinburgh. The team’s function encompasses organising, directing, and overseeing Concept’s financial activities. This role leads a team of three covering a full range of accounting activities. The team maintains Concept’s finance function to record and provide essential financial information to support business planning, decision-making, and cash flow management, managing working capital to ensure operational liquidity.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensuring timely and accurate accounting close processes each month, quarter, and year end; tracking, reporting, and analysing budget variances.
* Preparing accurate financial statements including month-end management reports (profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flow).
* Working with managers across the business to provide support and ensure that business and financial goals are achieved.
* Maintaining a strong control environment and recommending improvements when necessary.
* Controlling intercompany processes and liaising with other entities to ensure accounts balance.
* Financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and internal control in collaboration with the Finance Director.
* Providing accurate financial reports to management.
* Managing the AP, AR and payroll functions.
* Ensuring compliance with government regulations.
* Working with auditors (internal and external) in the performance of their duties.
* Collaborating with the Finance Director in the preparation of statutory accounts and corporate tax-related matters.
* Recommending changes in policies or procedures to improve financial performance.

Qualifications

Required:

* Degree-educated finance professional.
* Professionally qualified accountant (ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, etc.).
* 7+ years’ professional experience in business.
* Strong IT skills, including advanced Excel knowledge and ERP experience.
* UK GAAP / IFRS knowledge.
* A good understanding of UK corporate tax, UK VAT, UK income tax, etc.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Self-motivated with a flexible attitude.
* Good stakeholder liaison and management ability.
* Excellent team worker.

Preferred:

* Prior people management experience.
* Experience implementing new systems and designing related processes and procedures.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines.
* Prior experience in a software development or engineering environment.
* Experience working in a global business.
