Palmerston Primary School is a mainstream primary school with a fully integrated Physical and Medical Resource Base. Pupils supported through the resource base are educated within their age-related mainstream classes and are fully included in all aspects of school life wherever possible. The Specialist Learning Support Assistant works flexibly across the school day to support pupils with Physical and Medical needs within mainstream classrooms, shared learning spaces and wider school activities, promoting inclusion, independence, safety and progress.
You will work 1:1 with the pupils to ensure they have access to the curriculum as well as wider life of the school. This may include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas.
You will be expected to work under the guidance of Specialist teachers and class teacher.
You will also be expected to work under and with ALNCO, Class/subject teacher & members of the school leadership team to support a range of pupils with PMed to access learning and wider life of the school.

Pay details: Level 3 (SCP 8-12) £26,824 - £28,598 Pro Rata £13.90 - £14.82 Per Hour + Special School Allowance

Description:
To provide support for Physical and Medical pupils across all schools within the Vale of Glamorgan. Ensuring they have access to the curriculum and acting as a practical assistant during lessons as required. You will also need to provide support to all teachers and specialists involved.
About you
You will need:
Previous and recent experience working in primary or secondary schools.
Experience of supporting cyp with physical difficulties, complex medical needs and/or long-term health conditions.
Previous experience of implementing learning strategies, such as therapy programmes or personalised learning activities under professional guidance.
Previous experience of assisting with planning, monitoring and evaluation of pupils work.
Previous experience of working with a range of IT software programmes, communication aids and/or adapting equipment to support access to learning.
Strong understanding of ALN, in particular to physical disabilities, medical conditions, sensory needs and how these impact learning and participation.
Able to demonstrate effective working ways with pupils and promote and inclusive classroom practice.
Knowledge of Health and Safety and manual handling requirements
Knowledge of different key stage programmes.
Working knowledge of safeguarding arrangements in school environment
Able to communicate and liaise with school staff, parents and LA staff.
Ability to problem solve
Strong ability to follow medical instructions
