Head of Underwriting – Commercial & Personal Lines
Salary: £65,000 – £80,000 depending on experience, plus performance‑related bonus and benefits
Closing Date: Tuesday 5th May 2026
At Sagic, our purpose is simple: as well as providing insurance services to the Salvation Army, we also exist to provide fair, accessible insurance to people who have often been overlooked or underserved by the market. We believe insurance should be inclusive, transparent, and built around real customer needs.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Head of Underwriting to lead the development of our Commercial and Personal Lines portfolio, ensuring we deliver on both our commercial ambitions and our ethical commitment to customers.
The Role
This is a strategic and hands‑on leadership role, responsible for driving the profitable growth of our Commercial and Personal Lines book.
Sagic is entering a significant phase of expansion, with a clear ambition to double the size of our business over the next few years. This role will be central to that journey by shaping underwriting strategy, expanding broker relationships, and building the capability needed to support that growth.
You will lead underwriting performance, shape portfolio strategy, and play a key role in expanding our broker relationships and market presence. You will also have the opportunity to build and develop a high‑performing underwriting team as the portfolio grows.
A key part of the role will be evolving and enhancing our underwriting framework, including developing wordings, refining rating approaches, and strengthening underwriting guides to support consistent, high‑quality decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the underwriting strategy for Commercial and Personal Lines
* Drive profitable growth through disciplined underwriting and strong broker engagement
* Develop and manage key broker and partner relationships
* Identify new market opportunities aligned with Sagic’s values and risk appetite
* Shape and enhance underwriting structures, including wordings, rating models, and guidelines
* Monitor portfolio performance and implement actions to optimise results
* Contribute to product innovation and continuous improvement
* Ensure underwriting practices align with regulatory expectations and fair customer outcomes
About You
* Significant experience in underwriting Commercial and Personal Lines risks
* Proven ability to lead or step into a leadership role within underwriting
* Strong track record of broker development and business growth
* Commercially astute, with a clear focus on profitability and sustainability
* A values‑driven approach, aligned with delivering fair and inclusive insurance solutions
* Excellent leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills
