Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our team in a vibrant care environment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the overall management of our two care homes, ensuring that high standards of care are maintained for all residents. This position requires strong leadership skills, a passion for providing quality care, and the ability to manage and supervise staff effectively.
What is the role of a deputy care manager?
A deputy care manager works closely with the Registered Home Manager supporting them with day-to-day running of the care service. You will help to ensure that staff are motivated, committed and that care of the highest possible standard is being provided.
Responsibilities of a deputy care manager include, but are not limited to:
* Assist the Manager in overseeing daily operations of the care home, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
* Supervise and support staff, providing guidance on best practices in dementia care and assisted living.
* Develop and implement care plans tailored to individual resident needs, ensuring that all aspects of their well-being are addressed.
* Foster a positive environment for both residents and staff, promoting teamwork and effective communication.
* Conduct regular assessments of resident care and satisfaction, making necessary adjustments to improve service delivery.
* Participate in recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of staff members to ensure a competent workforce.
* Assisting the manager with planning and organisation;
* Collaborate with healthcare professionals and families to coordinate comprehensive care for residents.
* Monthly reviewing of care plans and risk assessment, updating these as and when required
* Making sure regulatory requirements are met
* Covering for the manager when they have time off
* Some On call responsibilities
* Rota management
What skills do you need to be a deputy care manager?
To be a deputy care manager, you will need skills including:
* Previous experience in a supervisory role within a nursing home or care home setting is essential.
* Strong knowledge of dementia care practices and assisted living standards is highly desirable.
* Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively while fostering a supportive work environment.
* Experience in developing and implementing care plans that meet the diverse needs of residents.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with residents, families, and staff members compassionately.
* Team leadership skills
* Strong understanding of regulatory requirements
Ideally you should have experience of working in social care.
What qualifications do you need to be a deputy care manager?
A deputy care manager is typically expected to have at least a Level 3 diploma in Adult Care.
If you don't already have management qualifications, such as a Level 4 or Level 5 diploma, you will undertake them in the role. These will also be important if you want to potentially progress from deputy manager to manager in the future.
