Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer role sits within the Hardware team supporting the development of high-performance video and imaging processing products under the Vision4ce brand. The team handles electronics, electrical, systems, mechanical, and thermal management for ruggedized compute platforms focused on high-performance applications, video capture, and tracking. Our products aim to provide practical solutions for real-world scenarios.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all mechanical and thermal aspects of the Vision4ce products. If you have a strong, varied mechanical background, are a team player, and enjoy seeing your efforts result in usable products, Chess Dynamics is the place for you.
Key Responsibilities
* Design effective packaging and thermal management solutions for products like GRIP rugged computers and CHARM trackers using SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
* Lead the mechanical aspects within a small, multidisciplinary project team, ensuring quality design solutions within cost, time, and quality constraints.
* Collaborate with the team to perform engineering analyses, including thermal, stress, fatigue, and vibration assessments.
* Conduct lab testing to verify and validate design outputs against requirements.
* Develop engineering reports supporting new designs, failure investigations, and customer requirements.
* Coordinate with electronic engineering teams to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs.
* Manage engineering documentation, including design data, BOMs, ECRs, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
* Support production, testing, and field engineering teams as needed.
* Work with project managers and sales teams to estimate timelines and report progress.
* Assist sales in preparing bids, proposals, and sales literature.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD.
* Experience designing enclosures for electronic equipment.
* Innovative mindset with a passion for mechanical engineering.
* Experience through the entire design process from requirements to product launch.
* Understanding of machining, casting, fabrication, and moulding techniques.
* Knowledge of design for manufacture and ease of assembly.
* Ability to manage deadlines and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
* Leadership skills to guide project design teams.
Desirable
* Experience designing for harsh environments.
* Experience in the Defence sector or similar fields.
* Familiarity with Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
* Proficiency in engineering calculations and Microsoft Office.
