Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Ultrasound Technologist will perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and interventional procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site radiologist. Responsibilities include providing patient care and education, maintaining records, and ensuring safety and comfort for all patients, staff, and visitors. The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Perform diagnostic sonographic imaging following established standards and protocols, using independent judgment to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
2. Assist radiologists with interventional procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, and drainage.
3. Prepare preliminary reports and communicate with referring physicians as needed.
4. Explain procedures to patients, obtain necessary consents, and ensure patient comfort and safety during exams.
5. Ensure timely uploading of images and documentation into PACS.
6. Communicate schedule changes to front desk staff.
7. Provide excellent customer service and patient care, utilizing AIDET principles.
8. Conduct equipment quality checks, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
9. Maintain and clean equipment and work areas per decontamination procedures.
10. Assist with daily ultrasound department operations, including inventory management and supply ordering.
11. Participate in maintaining ACR accreditation standards.
12. Attend departmental and team meetings, and adhere to policies and mandatory training.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned by radiologists and management.
Required Education & Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (CAAHEP preferred).
* Current ARDMS certification in AB and OB; BR and VT certifications preferred or required within 2 years.
* Current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
* Minimum 2 years of clinical ultrasound experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* In-depth knowledge of ultrasound procedures and protocols.
* Proficiency in PACS, Microsoft Office, and organizational software.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with radiologists, patients, and staff.
* Ability to maintain professionalism and patience, even with difficult patients.
* Ability to coordinate work schedules, including overtime if necessary.
