Our Mental Health Integrated Access Partnership is revolutionising mental health crisis care by providing responsive community-based support, significantly reducing hospital admissions. Since February 2021, we have achieved a remarkable 99.9% reduction in NHS111 mental health calls directed to A&E. As a Shift Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our service, leading a dedicated team to deliver compassionate, timely, and high-quality care.
As a Shift Manager, you will oversee the operational management of our mental health service, ensuring the patient advice queue is managed efficiently. You will provide clear direction and support to colleagues, ensure the consistent application of standard operating procedures, manage incoming calls with empathy and professionalism, optimise resource deployment, and address resourcing issues promptly. You will proactively respond to risks within the healthcare system and implement business continuity plans when necessary. You will also produce comprehensive shift reports and facilitate effective communication across the service.

Job Responsibilities
* Operational Leadership: Oversee and coordinate the operational management of the mental health service across the region. Ensure the patient advice queue is managed efficiently and to high standards. Balance demand and capacity while coordinating with NHS 111 during shifts.
* Team Direction: Lead by providing clear direction and support to colleagues, ensure consistent application of standard operating procedures, produce comprehensive shift reports, and facilitate effective communication across the service and with external providers.
* Call Handling: Manage incoming calls from healthcare professionals and patients with empathy and professionalism, enter referrals into the patient database, and adhere to safety calling processes.
* Resource Management: Optimise deployment of resources during the shift and address resourcing issues due to sickness or absence with contingency plans. Support clinical teams in delivering appropriate care pathways.
* Risk Management: Proactively respond to risks within the healthcare system, implement business continuity plans for IT or equipment failures, and escalate non-compliance or training issues.

Person Specification
* Essential Qualifications and Experience: Good general level of education, including GCSEs in English and Maths. Experience of leading others to achieve objectives; experience in a professional environment with high standards of customer service.
* Desirable: Experience in healthcare/NHS; experience in managing people and processes.
* Skills, Abilities, and Attributes: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; computer literacy and keyboard skills; ability to convey information accurately in writing and verbally; confidentiality; ongoing commitment to personal development.
