Due to continued growth across the defence sector, we are supporting a leading defence technology organisation in the search for a Junior Data Engineer to help scale their data and analytics capabilities across the UK and internationally. The Opportunity As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that underpins advanced analytics and operational insight. Working alongside experienced engineers, analysts, and delivery teams, you’ll contribute to scalable, customer-focused data solutions in a highly collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to support analytics, experimentation, and decision-making Integrate new data sources, ensuring data is accurate, structured, and accessible to internal teams and customers Support the development of data models, documentation, and data warehouse solutions Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and delivery teams to align data systems with customer requirements Contribute to data quality, monitoring, and automation, continuously improving platform performance Assist with data analysis, visualisation, and ad-hoc investigations to support customer insight Participate in troubleshooting, technical discussions, and customer-facing demonstrations Engage with partners across the defence data ecosystem, supporting knowledge sharing and innovation About You You’re a technically curious and motivated individual with a passion for working with data and solving complex problems. Essential skills & experience: Experience working with large datasets to support analytics, experimentation, or training Background in data engineering, computer science, data analytics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) Familiarity with data processing tools and pipelines (e.g. SQL, Python, ETL tools, cloud technologies) Strong IT skills and a proactive approach to learning new tools and technologies Ability to understand customer challenges and contribute to practical, data-driven solutions Strong collaboration skills with a positive, adaptable mindset Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Apache Superset, or Jupyter Desirable Experience Exposure to cloud platforms, simulation environments, or defence systems Experience optimising systems for performance, scalability, and reliability Familiarity with project or task management methodologies Full UK driving licence professionals in a supportive, forward-thinking team If you’re looking to build a career in data engineering where your work has genuine impact, we’d be interested in hearing from you.
