Role summary
We are seeking a hands-on Head of IT to lead technology delivery, security, vendor performance and operational governance for a fast-growing professional services business (~250 people). The environment is stable day-to-day; the role focuses on introducing structure, consolidating the Microsoft estate post-acquisition, reducing technical debt, and building a scalable operating model that supports future growth.
Key responsibilities
Technology leadership & governance
* Own IT strategy, priorities, budget inputs, and delivery across BAU and change.
* Establish clear governance for risk, change, and technology decision-making.
* Maintain an up-to-date view of the IT estate (platforms, contracts, licensing, suppliers, security posture).
Microsoft estate consolidation & integration readiness
* Lead Microsoft 365 tenant consolidation (identity/email) into the primary tenant and decommission legacy tenants.
* Simplify and rationalise associated services (data shares, telephony contracts, tooling) where required.
* Create repeatable patterns for future acquisitions/integrations to avoid compounding complexity.
Service delivery & ITSM uplift
* Improve service operations beyond incident handling by introducing pragmatic:
* change control
* problem management
* continual service improvement
* Implement simple service metrics and reporting to drive reliability and reduce recurring issues.
People & stakeholder management
* Lead and develop a small internal team, setting clear objectives and raising capability over time.
* Act as the senior escalation point and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
* Partner with leadership (especially Finance and operations teams) to translate business needs into tech priorities.
Required experience & background (Essential)
* Led IT for an organisation of roughly 200–500 employees (or comparable complexity), ideally in professional services and/or regulated environments.
* Strong vendor/MSP management: SLAs, commercials, service performance, risk management.
* Hands-on technical credibility (recent): able to dive into complex issues when needed (without being first-line day to day).
* Experience implementing pragmatic IT service management: incident + change + problem management; service metrics and improvement cadence.
* Solid grounding in cybersecurity operations: identity, endpoint, monitoring, incident response; able to steer towards frameworks such as ISO 27001.
* Strong communicator with the ability to set priorities, explain risk, and drive adoption across the business.
