Overview
Senior Research Nurse within the Research & Development Department. The role supports the safe conduct of research in accordance with the UK Clinical Trials Regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The post holder will be accountable for the assessment, planning, organisation and ongoing care of research participants, ensuring compliance with study/trial protocols. The role involves leading a team in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials, developing and growing the research portfolio across the designated specialty area, and coordinating trials with research and multidisciplinary teams. This is a specialist role providing expert direction, support, supervision and management of staff, with responsibilities for training staff to conform to protocol and practice guidelines.
The post holder will work to problem solve and drive solutions to ensure research is conducted safely, effectively and efficiently, using relevant knowledge to perform procedures in line with study protocols and to extend this experience to support others in the research team and other health care professionals where appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Deliver and clinically manage a portfolio of academic and commercial research studies, primarily in Oncology, while working across all research specialties and covering for colleagues as required.
* Provide expert research support to investigators and coordinate clinical trials with multidisciplinary teams.
* Lead recruitment of participants, assess and plan care, and manage ongoing participant involvement in trials in accordance with protocols and regulatory requirements.
* Lead, supervise and train staff to ensure protocol compliance and adherence to practice guidelines.
* Collaborate with consultants, specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals to advance patient care and research outcomes.
* Identify opportunities to expand the research portfolio within the designated specialty and contribute to service development.
* Problem solve and drive improvements to ensure research activity is conducted safely and efficiently.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse with experience in clinical research; experience in oncology is desirable but other specialties are also relevant.
* Good knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the regulatory requirements for clinical trials.
* Strong leadership, team management and training skills.
* Excellent communication and organisational abilities with the capacity to work across multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of data quality and participant safety.
