Experienced Staff Nurse - MacGregor Ward
To coordinate and provide skilled nursing care (without direct supervision) to children and young people, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct. To be competent to manage and implement the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of a high standard of evidence-based care to infants, children, young people, and their families. To deliver effective discharge planning of children, liaising with other professionals and agencies as required. Promote family-centered care and act as an advocate for children. Maximize opportunities for health promotion and health education for patients and their families.
Responsibilities include providing nursing care to high dependency children during both the acute phase and stabilization, supporting students, and performing Mentor roles or attending Mentor and Assessing Courses in line with NMC standards. Provide escort services for transfer of children and telephone advice to parents requesting information and support.
Personal qualities required include excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication with children of all ages, and efficient organization of workload. The role involves acting as a role model, supporting team members, and ensuring effective prevention and control of infection in liaison with the Trust's Infection Control Team. The nurse must also act as a role model in applying good infection control practices and ensure compliance with all policies.
Professional responsibilities include coordinating and leading a team of nurses during clinical shifts, deputizing for Ward Manager and Clinical Sisters, and participating in innovative practice promotion. Attendance and compliance with mandatory training, personal development reviews, and relevant training days are essential. Safeguarding policies must be followed, including Child Protection Level 3 training.
Strategic and service responsibilities involve promoting effective relationships with all departments, advising on management of children across the trust, and participating in shared care with other paediatric centers and community nursing teams. Governance involves evaluating research, implementing best practices, promoting quality care, participating in audits, investigating complaints, and engaging in personal research and clinical supervision. Adherence to Trust and National Guidelines is mandatory.
Health & Safety responsibilities require compliance with the Trust's policies, taking reasonable steps to prevent injuries, reporting defects and hazards, and ensuring accurate completion of clinical incident forms.
