The post will be based at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, but the post holder will be required to work at other sites within the Trust.
Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work full or part time in Anaesthetics. In the course of his/her work the job holder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.
An educational supervisor will be assigned to provide support. Appraisal and Job Planning is carried out at regular intervals, and forwarded to the specialty lead. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training.
The post currently attracts a discretionary recruitment premium of up to 10% (based on basic salary) per annum. This is payable for up to 4 years and is reviewed by the Trust on an annual basis.
Main duties of the job
The department of anaesthetics works across the Trust, although all Consultants have a site base for their on-call. There is an expectation that all anaesthetists will be willing and able to work sessions in both hospitals to enable all to maintain a full range of anaesthetic skills.
The case mix and anaesthetic on-calls are different at both sites and consequently are described separately below.

Qualifications and Education
Essential
3. Valid Registration with the General Medical Council.
4. Fellow of Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
5. Completed Higher Specialist Training in Anaesthetics or evidence of equivalent competency (approved by PMETB/GMC).
6. Evidence of day time and/or on call experience in ICU and maternity during the last 2 years, either at ST6-7 or consultant level.
Desirable
7. Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree
8. Other relevant postgraduate qualification
9. Instructor status in either ATLS/APLS/ALS
10. Evidence of recent and on-going CPD in intensive care
11. On the Specialist Register for the above, or be within 6 months of being admitted to the Register at the time of interview.
