About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated, organised, and experienced Head Science Technician to lead a dedicated team supporting the delivery of practical science lessons across KS3–KS5.
As Head Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining high standards of health and safety, providing technical support to teaching staff, and overseeing the preparation and organisation of materials and equipment for engaging and effective science practicals.

Key Responsibilities
* Manage and coordinate the daily operation of the science preparation room and technician team
* Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and materials for science practicals
* Maintain appropriate stock levels of equipment and chemicals, ensuring safe storage and handling
* Maintain and update equipment inventories
* Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance
* Safely dispose of hazardous waste and chemicals in line with school and legal protocols
* Provide technical support and advice to science teachers
* Assist in the development of risk assessments for practical activities
* Support, train, and supervise other technicians if required
* Ensure the science labs and prep rooms are well-organised and maintained
* Contribute to school-wide science events and extracurricular activities when necessary
Person Specification
Essential:
* Previous experience working in a science laboratory (preferably in a school setting)
* Good understanding of laboratory health & safety procedures, including COSHH
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
* Skilled in handling laboratory equipment and preparing chemical solutions
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Commitment to supporting science teaching and learning
Desirable:
* Previous experience as a senior or head technician
* Science qualifications (A-Level or above, ideally in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
* Familiarity with CLEAPSS materials and best practices
