We are hiring building surveyor placement students to join our Building Consultancy teams in Cambridge, London and Oxford within the firm’s Commercial division on a 12-month fixed term placement beginning Summer/Autumn 2026. This is a varied and interesting role assisting professional building surveyors on servicing a wide range of private, commercial and institutional clients
Sandwich students will be working with partners and experienced surveyors on a day-to-day basis including client contact and will have their own areas of responsibility and opportunities to take forward work.
Main tasks:
1. Building surveys for purchase and lease
2. Project management
3. Measured surveys
4. Preparing drawings and specifications
5. Building design and contract administration
6. Party walls
7. Dilapidations
8. Diagnosing building defects such as subsidence damp and rot.
9. Insurance Reinstatement valuations
What will it take to be successful?
We are looking for forward thinking students with a can-do attitude, who have the ability to manage multiple project and deal with a variety of work. You will ideally be studying a RICS accredited Building Surveying degree. It is essential that you have or are working towards gaining a full UK driving license for our Oxford and Cambridge positions. Embarking on a placement year offers the potential opportunity for the right candidate to return as a graduate and begin your pathway to becoming a qualified surveyor.

Carter Jonas runs an internal APC training program, available to all placement students and graduates. As part of this program placement students will take part in various away days focused on understanding the APC process and how to succeed. They will receive help and support from across the wider firm, including those who have recently sat their APC, as well as feedback and workshops provided by APC Assessors working at Carter Jonas. Overall APC contribution is only applicable for those with a RICS accredited degree.
