Hydrogen Intern

Salary £25,397

Fixed Term Contract 6 months

Based at our offices Thorpe Park, Leeds

Are you passionate about sustainability, energy innovation, and gaining hands-on experience in a real-world engineering and project delivery environment? Join our East Coast Hydrogen (ECH) team as an Intern and contribute to one of the UK’s most exciting low-carbon infrastructure projects.

As an ECH Intern, you will support the delivery of the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stage of the East Coast Hydrogen project. This internship offers exposure to technical, environmental, and strategic aspects of energy transition, while developing your skills in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Assist with data collection, analysis, and documentation to support project delivery

Prepare and review reports, presentations, and meeting notes

Support project tracking, including milestones, risks, and actions using project management tools

Help organise meetings, workshops, and site visits, including logistics and materials

Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and sustainability discussions

Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution

Contribute to administrative tasks and ad hoc support for wider business objectives

What we are looking for

Completed secondary education (A-levels or equivalent)

A strong interest in energy and sustainability

Strong organisational and communication skills

Proactive, curious, and eager to learn

Familiarity with Microsoft Office; willingness to learn engineering/project software

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Desirable: A full UK driving licence

Salary from £25,397 per annum

25 days annual leave (plus recognised bank holidays and 2 half days over the Christmas period)

SSP for the first 2 calendar days then occupational sick pay

We are... Northern Gas Networks. We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire. That’s around 6.7 million individual customers. In fact, we own and maintain more than 37,000km of gas pipes - enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney and back again.
