Lucy Legal LLP is a forward-thinking criminal law practice committed to delivering robust defence and prosecution representation across the full spectrum of criminal matters. From serious crime and youth justice to regulatory work and appellate cases, we pride ourselves on combining meticulous preparation with genuine client care. Were expanding our Criminal team and looking for a Legal Secretary who will be the backbone of our operation—someone who understands that in criminal practice, precision and pace go hand in hand.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a firm where your work directly impacts outcomes for clients facing some of lifes most challenging moments. As our Criminal Legal Secretary, youll operate at the heart of a busy practice, managing the intricate administrative demands that keep cases moving forward. Youll work with solicitors and barristers on matters ranging from police station representation to Crown Court trials, liaising with courts, the CPS, and defence counsel. Every document you prepare, every diary you manage, and every file you organize contributes to the quality of our client service. This isnt a back-office role—youll be visible, valued, and integral to the teams success.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will be genuinely varied. Youll prepare statements of case, skeleton arguments, and correspondence to exacting standards, ensuring every document reflects our professional reputation. Youll manage complex diaries where a Crown Court listing can shift at short notice, and youll coordinate with courts to confirm dates and track procedural deadlines that are critical in criminal work. Youll maintain case files that form the evidence trail for trial, liaise with clients who may be anxious or vulnerable, and support your supervising solicitor in preparing for trial. Beyond the immediate cases, youll handle billing for matters that may span months, and youll be comfortable conducting basic legal research into procedure or case precedent when needed.
Were looking for someone with solid secretarial or administrative experience who is ready to specialize in criminal law. Previous legal experience is genuinely desirable—if youve worked in a law firm before, even in another practice area, youll understand the culture and can hit the ground running. If youre making the transition into law, were equally interested in someone with strong organizational skills, impeccable attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm for the work. This is a part-time role offering flexibility with genuine career progression: develop expertise in criminal procedure, support increasingly complex cases, and build the foundation for a long-term career in criminal law.
