Our Social Supermarket provides affordable food and wraparound support to people facing financial hardship, helping them move from crisis towards greater stability, confidence, and independence.
The Role
We are looking for a compassionate, organised, and proactive Support Worker to help run our busy Social Supermarket.
You will:
* Support clients through weekly appointments and provide a welcoming, dignified shopping experience.
* Manage food stock, donations, and deliveries to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
* Walk alongside clients as they develop practical life skills such as budgeting, meal planning, nutrition, and wellbeing.
* Help clients access wider community supports to improve their overall circumstances.
Main Responsibilities:
* Welcome and support clients during weekly shop sessions with warmth and respect.
* Receive, manage, and rotate food donations and deliveries, maintaining quality control.
* Order stock and assist the fundraiser in securing donations.
* Manage and prepare up to 70 weekly shop orders, requiring ability to lift, move, and organise stock safely and efficiently.
* Work one-to-one with clients to create personal development plans and link them with in-house or partner supports.
* Maintain accurate client records and service reports.
* Liaise with referrers, partner agencies, and volunteers to ensure coordinated support.
* Promote inclusion, dignity, and equality in all aspects of the service.
* Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and organisational policies.
* Contribute to team meetings, training, and ongoing service development.
Essential Skills & Qualities
* Experience supporting individuals or families experiencing poverty, isolation, or similar social challenges.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Strong organisational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
* Compassionate, patient, and non-judgemental approach.
* Competent in IT and record-keeping.
Desirable:
* Experience in a community setting such as a foodbank or social supermarket.
* Experience supporting clients with personal development, budgeting, or wellbeing programmes.
Additional Information
* Some flexibility is required, including occasional evening or weekend work.
* This post involves regulated activity under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 and requires an Enhanced Access NI check.
