An exciting opportunity has emerged within the Patient Services team at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.
We are seeking to initiate three new Cancer Patient Pathway Navigator positions, which will connect the clinical and administrative functions of the department.
This position will serve as an administrative liaison among the Treatment Booking team, Clinic Coordination Team, Medical Secretaries, the Reception and Appointments team and our Clinical colleagues (both medical and nursing), collaborating with specific clinical teams as a central access point. The role will ensure that all capacity issues, patient-level inquiries, and routine daily matters affecting patient appointments and admissions are directed to the appropriate teams, with issues resolved promptly and in accordance with patient needs. The individual will be tasked with ensuring that all pertinent results are accessible for clinic appointments, facilitating patient attendance as necessary and enabling them to receive results as required. We anticipate that these new roles will decrease the volume of email and telephone communications directed to the clinical teams, enable administrative functions to be performed efficiently and accurately, optimise all available capacity and ultimately enhance the patient experience while reducing unnecessary attendances or DNA's.
This will be a 12-month fixed-term pilot, with the expectation that it may evolve into a permanent role following evaluation.
This role serves as a vital link between the clinical and administrative teams at BHOC. The post holder will work closely with individual specialities and patient services teams to ensure that all patients experience a seamless journey while under the care of BHOC.
A strong working knowledge of the Mosaiq treatment booking system, cancer pathways and targets, and a comprehensive understanding of BHOC departments, procedures, and treatments is essential. This knowledge will enable the post holder to effectively manage capacity issues, respond to patient-level queries, and resolve day-to-day challenges that impact appointments and admissions—ensuring timely and appropriate escalation to relevant teams.
The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring that all necessary results are available ahead of clinic appointments, enabling patients to attend as required and receive results promptly. Attendance at multiple MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) meetings with clinical teams will also be a key part of the role.
