Responsibilities
1. Carry out H&S audits, inspections, and site visits across council services
2. Investigate accidents/incidents and ensure effective corrective actions
3. Provide advice and guidance to managers across operational risk areas
4. Deliver H&S training, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions
5. Support development and review of risk assessments (COSHH, DSEAR, etc.)
6. Work with managers to develop and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
7. Produce reports, policies, and committee papers
8. Monitor compliance with relevant H&S legislation and standards
9. Support closure of audit actions and continuous improvement
10. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including unions and insurers
Essential Requirements
11. Experience in a health and safety advisory role
12. Local authority or unionised environment experience
13. Experience conducting H&S audits and inspections
14. Strong experience delivering H&S training and presentations
15. Knowledge of "Big Six" hazards
16. CDM experience (Client/PD exposure desirable)
17. Experience developing SSOW and supporting managers
18. Strong understanding of H&S legislation and its application
19. Confident report writing and communication skills
Desirable
20. NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or working towards
21. Training qualification (or willingness to obtain)
22. Experience improving H&S systems or processes
