Engineering Apprentice - Mechanical Design Technician
Launch your engineering career as a Mechanical Design Apprentice at Biffa. The Engineering Design Technician Apprenticeship is a 4-year program where you will learn to produce engineering designs and drawings for components, structures, and systems used in industrial and commercial construction.
This role is based in Milton Keynes, where you will spend 80% of your time learning on the job and 20% studying virtually with Train'd Up. Your starting salary of £25,792 will increase each year based on your progress. On successful completion, you will earn a formal Level 3 qualification and gain experience to obtain EngTech status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Role Overview
You will produce designs and drawings for structures, piping, electrical systems, control and instrumentation systems, and mechanical components across Biffa sites. Although primarily office-based, travel will be required.
The Biffa Division
Within Resources & Energy, we focus on waste treatment, recycling, and disposal, providing treatment services for recoverable materials and landfill disposal for non-recyclables.
Core Responsibilities
* Produce detailed mechanical drawings or models (part and assembly level) following industry standards.
* Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models of mechanical components.
* Interpret technical specifications and collaborate with stakeholders.
* Review engineering drawings for accuracy and compliance.
* Generate design ideas and evaluate options for cost-effectiveness and practicality.
* Demonstrate understanding of engineering codes and standards.
Requirements
Essential:
* GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.
* No existing qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level.
* Strong interest in engineering and design.
