Job summary
There are two posts available in General Internal Medicine.
Applications are invited for ST1-level training posts offered by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Worcester Royal Hospital.
Internal rotations will be considered between Acute and Medicine and/or between the Worcestershire Royal Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital. This posts is for a minimum of 1 year, with a potential 1 year extension.
These are not Deanery posts. However, the posts are structured to provide a portfolio-based Postgraduate Training Programme similar to the Deanery model.
The posts may include participation in the on-call rota and/or ward cover out of hours.
The successful candidates will be welcomed to join the weekly teaching sessions and Grand Rounds. In-house training will be provided for PACES/MRCP part II, and study leave will be available to help candidates prepare for the examinations. At the end of the post a Certificate of Postgraduate Training will be available.
The candidate should have taken, or be preparing for Part I MRCP and planning to take Part II MRCP during the rotation. Completion of the post should prepare the candidate for further specialist training.
Main duties of the job
Duties of the post include care of acute medical admissions, short stay patients, outpatient clinics and portfolio-based procedures and competencies. Participation in audit and research is encouraged. Training will be supervised by a consultant.
Inpatients consultant and registrar ward rounds, ward referrals.
Observation and assisting the consultant or registrar with relevant procedures and investigations.
Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings
Attendance at Grand Rounds and other Medical Meetings
Attendance at scheduled teaching sessions
Participation in audit projects.
Participation in Mortality & Morbidity case reviews.

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to:
* provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners.

The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary team in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. * provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
* clerk admissions and prepare patients for planned treatment and procedures, including post-operative care as required.
* provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care, including discharge summaries.
* attend multi-disciplinary meetings, which may be cross county and cross site.
* collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives.
* Support professional supervision, training and management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, assessment and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate.
* if required, participate in the junior grade on call rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally with colleagues in post.
* if undertaking non-resident on-call duties, attend the hospital site to review patients when clinically necessary. You must be prepared to attend willingly whenever requested to do so by a member of their medical and nursing team.
