Job summary

Hours: 23.5 per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us as a Senior Practitioner (Allied Health Professional or Nurse) within the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) which is collocated next to the Emergency Department.

The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical expertise to allow patients to be seen, treated, discharged or signposted to alternative service provision. In addition, the post holder will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of a high standard of individualised patient care and improving patient experience. You will demonstrate continuing professional development, reflecting individual needs, the needs of the team and organisation.

In our new purpose-built facility, we have additional assessment rooms, a plaster room and eye clinic room to ensure that patients receive the best timely treatment that we can provide. The expansion will support the local population and will ensure that we have the necessary space to provide treatments.


Main duties of the job

1. Work autonomously to assess and appropriately treat patients using nationally recognised tools, for example NEWS / sepsis screening and local guidelines / patient group directions.
2. Providing leadership and management to junior members of the team, including supervision, absence management, performance management and recruitment.
3. Provide leadership to the team of clinicians on duty ensuring patient needs are prioritised appropriately
4. Actively participate in clinical audit, working within the trust's audit guidelines to undertake both national and local audit
5. Actively identify, report and act upon any clinical risks
6. Contribute to departmental policies, procedures and guidelines
7. Identify educational needs of self and others and proactively meet these needs and provide educational opportunities where possible
8. To work alongside senior management to develop innovative ways of working to benefit the whole health community
9. Make clinical decisions and guide others to do so using evidence based knowledge
10. Offer health advice and promotion to patients and their families including education on self-management

* Teaching qualification
* Level 3 or 4 advanced clinical examination course ( eg, AAAC or equivalent ) or desire to work towards it
* Up to date mandatory clinical skills / competencies

* Advanced clinical competencies eg, venepuncture / cannulation, male catheterisation
* MIMIC
* IRMER
* PACR
* PADRAP
* FLAP


Experience


Essential

* Experience of working in both primary and secondary care
* Experience in assessing, diagnosing, treating and discharging as an autonomous practitioner
* Understanding and experience of following clinical pathways
* Clinical treatment of managing both children and adults
* Previous experience of working in fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities


Desirable

* Experience of mentoring students

* Up to date understanding of current safeguarding of both children and adults, including mental capacity awareness
