Regulatory Officer (Process Industry – Installations)
We are looking for a professional individual with science or engineering qualifications and/or relevant experience working in process industry, who can regulate sites operating in chemicals, combustion, waste incineration, food and drink, paper & pulp, and hazardous waste treatment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead site-based audits at industrial sites, assess data and produce written assessments on the operator’s ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources.
* Complete desk‑top assessments of monitoring data, operational procedures and management systems.
* Influence and negotiate with operators to secure best practice, dealing with senior-level staff and local stakeholders.
* Set conditions for site operation and enforce the law if operators fail to comply.
* Respond to and investigate environmental incidents and regulatory breaches, ensuring remedial and enforcement actions are implemented.
Qualifications & Experience
* Relevant scientific/engineering qualifications (degree or equivalent) and/or experience of working in process industry or regulation.
* Demonstrable experience of environmental regulation and/or enforcement (desirable).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of being a trusted and effective regulator.
* Strong organisational skills with flexibility to prioritise across teams.
* Experience of incident management desirable.
