Environmental & Permitting Engineer
Location: Northeast England
Reports to: Environmental Manager
About the Role
We’re looking for an Environment & Permitting Engineer to join our SHEQ Compliance team. This role will ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permitting requirements, supporting operations at an upper-tier COMAH establishment.
As a green business, we aim to go beyond legislation, embedding sustainability into our core practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage Environmental Permitting & Compliance: Prepare and assess applications for EPR and PPC permits.
* Support COMAH Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental obligations for upper-tier COMAH sites.
* Deliver Regulatory Requirements: Support ESOS compliance, carbon trading, and ISO 14001 and IATF systems.
* Develop & Implement Environmental Policies: Lead the implementation of EHS UK policies.
* Incident Management: Document and investigate environmental incidents, tracking improvements.
* Occupational Hygiene Support: Collaborate with Hygiene teams for a safe environment.
* Regulatory Liaison: Engage with agencies and conduct audits.
* Performance Reporting: Provide environmental data for strategic improvements.
* Training & Awareness: Develop environmental training strategies.
* Pollution Control & Waste Management: Coordinate waste and pollution initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed, you need:
* A degree in Environmental Science, H&S, Engineering, or related field.
* Advanced H&S qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
* Experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 preferred).
* Knowledge of environmental legislation, risk assessment, and compliance.
* Expertise in ISO 14001 and relevant standards.
* Familiarity with UK and European environmental regulations, including EA permitting.
* Strong problem-solving and audit experience.
* Experience in pollution control, waste management, and health policies.
* Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD.
* Self-starter with excellent communication and leadership skills.
