Offer description

Tendering to, negotiating and agreeing contracts, and commercially delivering the projects. As an integral part of the project delivery team they will hold key responsibilities associated with leading the commercial and financial success of the project. Role is broad and includes anything from risk management to procurement, contract management, financial reporting and managing the supply chain. Typically, they will have a track record of managing and developing a commercial team and be themselves a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB, and a mentor/role model to other commercial staff on their journey to becoming professionally qualified. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Commercial Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.


Responsibilities

* Governance: Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's governance requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities.
* Commercial Management: See the bigger picture; understand economic factors affecting the construction industry; awareness of disputes resolution including options and techniques; liaise with legal experts; prepare estimates & tender submissions; interpret specifications & preambles; represent financial and contractual interests in meetings; respond to customer requirements; manage commercial aspects with suppliers, customers and stakeholders to keep the project on plan; coordinate buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques; manage commercial risk and opportunity; manage disallowed cost.
* Accountabilities: Provide commercial input to Buildability and Value Engineering reviews; manage feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating; maximise digital opportunities; support tender & cost data reviews; manage preparation of Target Cost; coordinate the commercial team to identify and action programme issues; manage Earned Value Management and the monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR) and related commercial reports; report and explain the commercial aspects of a project; manage feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales.
* Procurement: Establish client supply chain requirements and advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements; formulate and manage plans for resource procurement.
* Development, Recruitment and Retention: Recruitment, management, development and retention of staff.


Qualifications

* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
* CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)


About the role
