What you’ll be doing
Your responsibilities include monitoring, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution systems to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply. You will facilitate the safe transfer of electrical power from substations to end users, minimizing disruptions and optimizing network performance. You will be committed to high operational standards, enhancing system resilience, and ensuring safety compliance to support a dependable power infrastructure.
* Inspect, maintain, repair, and construct work on the Transmission Overhead Line network according to policy and standards.
* Ensure compliance with ESQC Regulations and internal inspection policies.
* Perform maintenance, fault repairs, and inspections on the Transmission network to meet productivity targets.
* Carry out stand-by duties for customer supply restoration and network security.
* Represent the company professionally, upholding the Land Code of Conduct.
* Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring operational efficiency and value for money.
* Enhance network resilience through technical innovation and maintain transmission assets to standard.
* Support inspection, maintenance, and emergency repairs on the Transmission System.
* Accurately record inspections, as-built records, and address urgent issues.
* Conduct site works safely, supervising contractors and performing risk assessments.
* Assist in planning jobs, securing materials, vehicles, and equipment.
* Participate in Overhead Line maintenance and inspection as a team member.
* Inspect, repair, and maintain tower components like warning lights and step bolts.
* Supervise contractors during tower construction and maintenance, applying conductor repair techniques.
* Develop expertise and obtain authorizations related to substations, cables, and overhead lines.
* Mentor apprentices and trainees, supporting their growth.
* Promote health, safety, and environmental compliance across operations.
What you’ll bring
* Extensive knowledge of transmission plant and equipment.
* Thorough understanding of Scottish Power health and safety procedures.
* Expertise in outage and resource planning.
* Familiarity with materials, equipment, and techniques for conductor repairs.
* Proficiency in construction and maintenance techniques for overhead line repairs.
* Knowledge of lifting, rigging, and slinging principles.
* Authorization to work on Scottish Power, Grid, or other REC systems.
* Ability to work at heights up to 400ft.
* Effective communication skills with customers and colleagues.
* Knowledge of ESQC regulations for transmission overhead lines.
* Proactive problem-solving skills.
* Commitment to safety, punctuality, and quality.
* Strategic thinking to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
* Awareness of team and personal objectives.
* Decision-making confidence with appropriate consultation.
Minimum requirements
* Experience and technical competence in Transmission Operation and Maintenance.
* System authorizations held.
* Proven record in slinging, rigging, and OHL repairs and maintenance.
* Valid driver’s license.
* Site Management Safety Training / Safety Passport.
