An opportunity has arisen within our Joint Vehicle Fleet Management Department for a Senior Fleet Manager, based at HGV Workshop, Eastwood Trading Estate, Chesterton Road, Rotherham, S65 1SU.
The overall purpose of the role is to take full responsibility for the operational fire fleet, including plant and equipment, systems, processes, performance, and all staff employed by SYFR. You will act as the fleet professional advisor to the Joint Head of Fleet on matters concerning the choice, operation, and maintenance of the fleet, as well as technical and mechanical issues.
To be considered, you should have recent management experience within a transport or fleet department, managing a fleet of vehicles and budgets. Involvement in tenders, specifications, and accident management is essential. An understanding of financial and procurement regulations, road transport legislation, and health & safety in a workshop environment is required. Proficiency in fleet management systems is also essential.
You must possess the following qualifications:
* Full section “C” IRTE by examination (CPC exempt)
* Full member of a relevant technical organization, e.g., Society of Operations Engineers
* HNC in Motor Vehicle Management or equivalent
* NVQ Level III or equivalent in Motor Vehicle repair
The key duties include:
* Acting as the fleet professional advisor on all technical and mechanical matters concerning fire service vehicles and equipment.
* Managing the department and staff employed by SYFR.
* Deputising for the Head of Department in their absence.
* Staff responsibilities include recruitment, development, welfare, performance, discipline, and health & safety.
* Managing fleet stock, including acquisition, maintenance, upkeep, and disposal.
* Contributing to fleet strategies and business plans aligned with corporate objectives.
* Financial management, including cost control, income generation, and achieving savings targets.
* Managing trading account performance within budgets.
* Liaising with technical committees and senior officers on specifications, tenders, and procurement, including inspection and testing.
