Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure, including electricity, giant plant rooms, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactionary maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment that make up the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport. Ensuring high standards and maximising operational uptime. This shift-based position includes night and weekend work.
This role supports Baggage operations with assets such as Conveyor Systems, Sortation Machines, Carousels, Scanners, PLCs, and IT Control Systems.
What will you do?
1. Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
2. Keep engineering and operational records updated to meet business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
3. Support performance improvement activities and programmes.
4. Ensure safety responsibilities are met, including PPE use, training, and incident reporting.
5. Utilise GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as needed.
6. Develop skills to maintain and operate existing and new assets effectively.
7. Complete role-specific training.
8. Work in passenger-facing and back-of-house areas across the airport.
9. Collaborate with team members; this role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
* Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
* Technical maintenance experience.
* Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
* Proven experience in relevant engineering disciplines.
* Ability to improve system performance.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Driving licence.
Interview Process
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. 1-hour technical assessment with the Engineering Leader.
