Overview
As part of our workforce transformation, we are looking to appoint Consultants in Emergency Medicine to work in our Emergency Departments at The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.
Job plan and rota
We offer our consultants the option of a 10 or 12 PA job plan (7.5DCC/2.5SPA or 9DCC/3SPA) which includes a flexible shift rota between 08:00 – 22:00 weekdays and 8 hours at weekends. Specific individual requirements will also be accommodated where possible, including the ability to have fixed weekdays off or part time positions.
Academic and professional development opportunities
A new medical school opened in east Kent from 2020, offering 100 training places per annum. We have been working closely with university partners and other Kent Trusts to realise this and would welcome applicants who may be interested in joint academic and clinical appointments. In addition to the development of others, we are keen to support the professional and academic study of our consultant body. This includes support to study postgraduate qualifications such as MBA or MSc or undertaking academic research.
Team structure and training
Our emergency medicine consultants are supported by an EM workforce consisting of 25 Middle Grade/Speciality Doctors, in addition to higher trainees (2) and ACCS posts (4). We support the development of our junior grade workforce by offering special interest posts, a CESR completion route and have a cohort of trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners supported by our Acute Care Nurse Consultants.
Why join
Now is an exciting time to join the Urgent & Emergency Care Group at East Kent Hospitals. We are one of the Top Ten trusts in England for improvements in our emergency care access standards. We have also recently invested £6.2m in improvements across our emergency floor and are looking innovatively at our workforce models across the emergency floor.
The Kent & Medway Medical School (KMMS) is Kent and Medway’s first ever medical school, bringing together existing centres of excellence in health and medical education provided by the two universities, and local healthcare organisations such as East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. It will offer a new model of patient-focused medical education.
